There are many ways to become involved and we
have provided a partial list of committees that could use your
expertise. If you would like to help or have any suggestions,
please contact the chamber or any other board member.

Internal Operations |
FUNDING\ POLICY & PERSONNEL\ BY-LAWS\FACILITY\
EQUIPMENT |

- Internal Operations Committee meets as needed
- This committee will oversee policies, personnel policies, and
By-laws of the Chamber. They will to continue to research items
necessary to improve and update the Chamber office equipment and
facility as needed, and bring recommendations to the Board.
- The committee will continue to seek additional grants, donations
and other appropriate sources of funds for the Chamber. They shall
perform such additional activities as are needed to provide adequate
funding of the Chamber, subject to and Board approval.

Community Development |
COMMUNITY PROMOTION: AUCTION\ HOME SHOW\ GOLF OUTING\
PARADE\ TOURISM \ BEAUTIFICATION \ IMAGE\NEW RESIDENTS\ HOLIDAY PROMOTIONS

- This committee will promote retailing/service industry within
the community. They will coordinate all sales promotions within
the community and coordinate their activities with other committees
and the City of Altoona. They will perform such additional activities
as needed to provide the coordination, subject to Board approval.
- This committee will organize, be informed about and involved
in Chamber community projects and activities as directed by the
Board, and shall advise the Board of support needed. The committee
will actively solicit additional tourism activities. They shall
perform such other appropriate activities (i.e. maps, brochures,
etc.) subject to Board approval.

Membership Marketing |
VOLUNTEERS \ NEWSLETTERS \ AFTER HOURS \ AMBASSADORS
\ DINNERS SEMINARS \ LEADERSHIP DEVEL \ AWARDS \ MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN

- This committee will actively solicit new members for the Chamber
and contact existing members who have not renewed their membership.
They will perform such other activities as appropriate to membership
solicitation (i.e. ribbon cuttings, after hours events, etc.)
subject to Board approval.
- This committee will assist with six newsletters per year, coordinate
press releases and develop other items of public profile for the
Chamber, also work with community leadership development, subject
to approval from the Board of Directors.

Economic Development |
GOVT. AFFAIRS\ MARKETING\ RETENTION\ RESOURCE ACCESS\
BUSINESS ATTRACTION: |

- This committee will monitor City Council meetings, assist the
City with input on such items that have joint impact (i.e. comprehensive
plan) and stay informed of current issues and inform the Chamber
accordingly. They will also be involved in the Des Moines Chamber
of Commerce Federation meetings and legislative priorities.
- This committee will monitor the Economic Development Group
meetings, assist the Group with input on such items that have
joint impact and stay informed of current project, activities,
and decisions and report them to the Chamber membership accordingly.
- The board of directors will stay abreast of issues that affect
the Greater Des Moines Partnership area and a member will be part
of the Washington D.C. delegation.

Official welcoming committee/Ribbon Cuttings/Open House/Alive
after 5 Events for the Chamber and City Purpose of our Ambassadors: |

- To be the official welcoming committee for the city, county
and state events as an extension of the Altoona Area Chamber of
Commerce.
- To create good will with enthusiasm and hospitality.
- To relate pertinent information in regard to our city, county
and state.
- To call, as a group, on new business, dedication of community
projects, business anniversaries (25-50 years), and similar occasions.
- The Chamber staff will make the necessary arrangements for each
Ambassador call- i.e.: New Business, Ribbon Cutting, visitor,
new managers, new owners, major moves. Executive Director and
Ambassador calls every Wednesday. Ribbon Cutting on Fridays 11:45-
Visit and Cut Ribbon at Noon.

Tourism |
PROMOTE TOURISM: |

- Attend meeting, seminars and conventions with the Central Iowa
Tourism Region and Des Moines Conventions and Visitors Bureau.
- Attend six years CITR education/training meetings.
