Altoona City Council Candidate: Vern Willey - Incumbent

I am a lifelong resident of Altoona. I have been married to my wife Vicky for 25 years. I have 4 grown children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In 1974 I started my career with the City of Altoona. I have worked and have certifications in Water, Waste Water, Building Inspections, Public Works and Parks. I serve on numerous boards and committees in the Altoona, Metro DM and State.

American Water works Assoc. 36 years
Iowa Water Pollution Control Assoc. 20+ years
American Public Works Assoc. 32 years
International Code Committee 30 years
International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials 30 years
Founding member and still on Altoona Campus Board

I am retired and have spent the past 4 years on ALTOONA City Council.

Question #1: Why are you running for office?

I love Altoona. After working for Altoona for 41.5 years and then another 4 years on the council, I feel there is still more I can contribute to make our City the best it can be for all of our citizens. I feel I bring knowledge and experience to the table.

Question #2: What will you be contributing to this role that will provide a positive impact?

I presently sit on several boards and commissions.

b) Central Iowa Regional Drinking Water Commission
c) Metropolitan Planning Organization
d) MPO Bike and Pedestrian Round Table
e) Four Mile Watershed Management Authority
f) Mud, Camp and Spring Watershed Management Association
g) Statewide Bike and Pedestrian Committee

My 45+ years of experience in Municipal Government will benefit the citizens of Altoona.
