Outlets of Des Moines will host the United Way of Central Iowa Stuff the Bus Book Drive from Saturday, May 1 through Sunday, May 16, 2021. New or gently used books for babies to young adults can be dropped off at Book Warehouse in the marked Stuff the Bus bins. The United Way has provided a list of books that are most needed to help donors select reading materials for donation, visit www.outletsofdesmoines.com for more details.
Statistics from the Iowa Department of Education show that approximately one in four central Iowa students are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade. The most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children is to increase their access to books. Donated books will be distributed to United Way of Central Iowa’s partner programs, child-care centers, and in-home childcare providers.
