The Altoona Enabling Garden is hosting a small plant sale this Tuesday, May 17, 4-6 pm. We are selling hosta, ranging is size from miniature to giant. The miniature hosta are ideal for your fairy gardens and include Little Devil, Platinum Tiara, Lakeside Zinger, Baby Tears, and Shade Parade. And some of the smalls are Little Treasure, Grand Prize, Blue Mouse Ears. There will be approximately 24 variety available.
Besides hosta, we will be selling daylilies, elephant ear, and coleus.
The Enabling Garden is located southeast of the Altoona Hy-Vee loading dock and is located at 1050 1st Ave. S., Altoona, Iowa. Parking near the garden is limited but there is plenty of parking in the Hy-Vee lot. After you have made your purchase, you can drive up to the entrance of the garden and helpers will load. Plants do best if you plant them right away. If that is not possible, keep them in a garage out of the sun and wind. To plant, dig the hole twice the width of the division, spread the roots out if possible, and plant at the depth perennials were prior to digging. Fill the hole with loose soil, water weekly if 1" of rain does not fall, and mulch with 1-2" of leaves, grass clipping, or wood mulch.
