Our community sits at the crossroads of America’s busiest Interstates and provides residents and visitor’s thrills and spills, live concerts, fresh water aquariums and more! Altoona is known as the “entertainment” center for Central Iowa with Adventureland Theme Parks, Bass Pro Shops and Prairie Meadows as well as a host of great restaurants, trails and community events.
Altoona has a contagious community pride. We have a small town feel with locally-owned businesses, music in the parks and recreational opportunities for the young and old. We are a vibrant city with over 200 acres of recreational space, an aquatic center, skate park, public library, an enabling garden, war memorials and many more amenities and attractions.
The city of Altoona is located directly off Interstate 80 and the Highway 65 bypass. With only a 15 minute drive to downtown Des Moines and easy access to the rest of the metro area, Altoona offers a wide variety of benefits for both large and small businesses. Additionally, our city’s economic development team works with developers and business owners to create progressive partnerships for quality growth throughout the community.
Altoona is a part of the Southeast Polk Community School District. SEP applies the most recent technologies to teach our youth. Our community is dedicated to growth through education, business, cultural and recreational opportunities.
Altoona provides a strong foundation from which to build a bright future.
