Eight Steps to Increase Your Post Reach on Your Socials
By: Kennedy Wilson, AACC Events and Marketing Coordinator
When your reach is low, it can feel like your content is getting lost in the shuffle. This can be frustrating, but it's also a sign that maybe it's time to fresh your strategy!
It's important to remember though that low reach does not mean your content is bad! It might just be that you need a little more interaction or exposure to the RIGHT audience.
So what do you do? Here are eight steps you can take to boost your exposure to increase your content reach.
STEP 1: Respond to comments of previous posts and direct messages.
- Have you ever been scrolling on Facebook and you see what your friends have posted on? Even if it's a page you don't follow? Facebook wants you follow more and more pages so it shows you posts that your friends have made. If you're replying to comments, this pushes the post out more to that person's friends giving you more reach!
STEP 2: Engage with 10 people in your niche each day!
- Engaging with people in your industry is great exposure for your social media pages! Ever been down a "wonder who they are" rabbit hole? Social medias are designed to align you with pages, videos, other people etc. that you have shown interest in. Example: One night I was scrolling and I watched one, ONE video of the viral Dubai Chocolate Bar and immediately after watching it I start scrolling again and up pops dozens videos of people trying the Dubai Chocolate Bar, people selling kits on how to make it at home, and what felt like a million ASMR videos of people with this bar. The same concept can be applied to your business pages.
STEP 3: Change the format. If you were posting carousels, start posting reels.
- It's ok to mix up what kinds of social media content you're posting on your socials. Especially if you have a large rang of audience. Younger generations like reels- quick and to the point videos. Older generations might not mind reading through shorter material-- carousels are great for that audience! Younger generations watch/look at stories and older generations look more at posts. Mix it up! If one type of content isn't getting much reach, switch it over to another type and track the reach on your Meta Business tab!
STEP 4: Check your highest performing posts. Reshare them again (once every 3 months).
- There's no need to re-invent the wheel! If you have content that has proven to work and reach a lot of people USE IT AGAIN! No one is going to go through every single post that you've created to make sure every post is different content. Now you can't recycle the same stuff every day, but every three months recycle a high reach post!
STEP 5: Share on stories 5 times per week (Take 24 hour break from posting on stories- you'll have more views).
- Stories are content teasers! Videos on stories only play for a certain length before it cuts off, but people can then click on the link to be taken to the original post to watch the entire video. If you're doing this however, as expressed in this week's meme of the week, your first 4 seconds of your video HAS to get your audience's attention and keep it. Sharing your content to your stories can get extra reach and sometimes take a break from content brings a larger reach as well. There have been days where there isn't a lot going on and so we don't post a ton, and then the next day our reach skyrockets because people haven't seen posts from us in a while (even though it was only 24 hours).
STEP 6: Go to explore page, and check which posts are performing well (from people in your niche).
- As I've said before, no need to re-invent the wheel. See what other people in your industry are posting for content, but make sure to look at their reactions. You won't be able to see their reach, but if people are reacting to their content with likes, comments, shares etc. then it's something to note to try on your page!
STEP 7: Tap on the three dots and select "interested".
- Most of the time Instagram and Facebook will mark this for you as they calculate what videos and content you're looking at to push out related content to you. But if you're just starting and you find videos or posts that you'd like to see more of then make sure to click the interested button and you'll start your algorithm realignment!
STEP 8: Reply to direct messages or tags. The more you reply, the more your posts are shown on THEIR feed!
- Interacting with your audience is the BEST way to push your content to their feed. That's another fun part about algorithms, YOU can have a hand in pushing more of your content to your audience simply by commenting or replying to them!
Thank you for reading and we'll see you next time!
